In the ongoing vote counting for 26 out of 30 seats of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, the BJP candidate, Stanzin Lakpa, emerged victorious in the Cha constituency, securing a lead of 234 votes. Stanzin Lakpa garnered a total of 798 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Tenzin Sonam of the Indian National Congress, who received 564 votes. With a total of 1371 votes cast in the Cha constituency, Stanzin Lakpa expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support and pledged to redouble his efforts in serving them. The election marked a significant milestone as the first local poll in Ladakh since its transition to a union territory in August 2019 following the abrogation of Article 370. The new council is expected to be established by October 11.
