Rescue work to reach 40 workers trapped in collapsed Uttarkashi tunnel has been suspended temporarily as a sudden cracking sound was heard. The drilling machine has also developed a snag. Additional machines are also being rushed to the site. 40 workers are stuck inside the tunnel since November 12 after a portion collapsed. Rescuers are trying to push 3-feet-wide pipes through the debris using augur machines. Pipes had been pushed about 22 metres when the cracking sound was heard. Pipes have to be pushed about further 40 metres for workers to be rescued.
