Speaking at the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) in Delhi on October 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the 2001 terror attack on the Indian Parliament. He acknowledged the longstanding issue of cross-border terrorism in India, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Recounting the tragic events, Modi mentioned the terrorists’ attack on the old Parliament building around 22 years ago during an ongoing parliamentary session. “The terrorists aimed to hold parliamentarians hostage and inflict harm.” PM added. Modi also highlighted India’s history of facing numerous such terrorist attacks, urging global cooperation to combat terrorism. Furthermore, Prime Minister said, “The world has realised the challenge of terrorism. Terrorism in all its forms and shapes is against humanity. We all should take strict action against terrorism. It is sad the world has yet to reach unanimity on the definition of terrorism. Parliaments in the world and their representatives have to think about how to work together in this fight against terrorism.”
