Maha Shivratri, also spelled Mahashivratri or Maha Sivaratri, is one of the most famous Hindu festival associated with Lord Shiva and is celebrated on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) during the month of Phalguna (February or March) every year.
Maha Shivaratri 2024 Festival
Maha Shivratri, sometimes referred as the night of Shiva, is celebrated in honor of Lord Shiva and the devotees observe day and night fast, and perform ritual worships to appease Mahadev.
According to legends, Shivaratri symbolizes the wedding day of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is also believed that Shivaratri is the night when Lord Shiva performed the Tandava Nritya – Shiv Tandav, the dance of primal creation, preservation and destruction. Important custom of the festival is the ritual bathing of the Lingam with milk, yoghurt, honey etc. It is said that worshipping Lord Shiva on Shivratri brings happiness and prosperity. Maha Shivaratri 2024 festival is celebrated on 8 March, Friday.
