Today, Nag Panchami is reduced to a ritual. We no longer value snakes and their important role in nature. We have occupied their space at will and find them to be the most unwelcome creature. But on Nag Panchami we pray to them for miracles. To solve issues and fulfill desires.
The greatest miracle that Snakes performed was that they played a crucial role in the ecosystem. They protected the grains that are the main source of food for human beings by keeping the population of rodents in check.
Nag Panchami in Hindu tradition is dedicated to the importance of the coexistence of animals and human beings.
May the snakes in this world, sky, heaven, sunrays, lakes, wells and ponds bless us and we all salute them. The names of nine nag devtas are Anant, Vasuki, Shesh, Padmanabha, Kambal, Shankhapal, Dhrutrashtra, Takshak and Kalia. Chanting these names regularly, you gain protection from all evils and emerge victorious. O God snake, don’t be angry if I have committed a mistake. Accept my thanksgiving. Look after my people at home and in my father-in-law’s house. Do not bite anyone. Forgive any fault we may have committed inadvertently.
Water shortage, heat wave, lack of rains, floods and several other natural calamities that we face today is the direct result of disrespect shown to nature.
