Bhagavan Sri Ram was on Chaitra Shukla Paksha Navami (ninth day during the waxing phase of moon in Chaitra month) in Punarvasu Nakshatra on Karka Rashi.
Hindu devotees fast on the day and pujas are performed at noon, as it is believed that Lord Rama was born at this time.
Ram Navami in Vishnu Temples
The day is of great importance at the Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh. The pujas and rituals are spread over two days.
The Brahmotsavam at the world famous Bhadrachalam Sri Rama Temple is observed on the day.
Swaminarayan Jayanti is observed on Ram Navami day.
How to Observe Ram Navami?
On the Ram Navami day, after thoroughly cleaning the house, idol or picture of Lord Ram is installed in the puja room. Some people also keep portraits of Mata Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman along with Lord Rama.
Bananas, Tulsi leaves and usual puja flowers are placed near the deities.
An Arati is offered at noon and devotional bhajans are sung. Tika is applied and water is sprinkled on the people present.
Many people break the fast at noon with the Puja ‘prasad.’
The devotional songs sung include any one Ram Bhajan or Vishnu Sahasranama. Ramayana, especially the chapter Bala Khanda, is recited on the day.
