Karthigai, or Krithigai Nakshatra, in the month Tamil month Thai is considered highly auspicious by Lord Muruga or Skanda devotees. Thai Karthigai 2023 date is January 30. The Nakshatra or birth star, Kirthigai, is associated with Lord Muruga or Subrahmanya and the Karthigai Nakshatram day is considered auspicious. Special pujas and fasting is observed on Thai Karthigai day by Skanda devotees.
On the day, many devotees observe a complete or partial fast and walk to Lord Muruga Temple
Muruga temples are special decorated and traditional musical instruments and songs are played continuously.
Special abhishekam on Lord Muruga with milk, curd, panchamirtham, tender coconut water, sandalwood paste, honey, rose water and other auspicious items are performed on the day. There will be also procession of Lord Muruga through the temple streets in some areas.
The most famous and important festival observed in Thai month is the Thaipusam.
