NEW DELHI: Delhi court on Monday sent Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15. Kejriwal appeared before a Delhi court as his Enforcement Directorate custodial remand concluded in the money laundering case associated with excise policy.
This comes after the Enforcement Directorate alleged non-cooperation by Kejriwal.
Arvind Kejriwal’s legal team filed a request to permit him to peruse three books: the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and ‘How Prime Ministers Decide’ by journalist Neerja Chaudhary.
Kejriwal was produced in the court of Special Judge Kaveri Baweja after his ED custody ended.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of being produced in Delhi court, Kejriwal said that ‘What PM is doing is not good for the country’. He was produced on Monday before the court at the conclusion of his custody.
Kejriwal is currently in the custody of the ED due to his alleged involvement in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy.
Security measures were amplified outside the Rouse Avenue court on Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg as preparations were made for Kejriwal’s legal proceedings. Among those present at the court complex was Atishi, a senior minister in Delhi and Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal.
During the earlier session last Thursday, the Rouse Avenue Court decided to extend Arvind Kejriwal’s custodial remand by an additional four days in connection with the ongoing case. The ED, advocating for an extension, informed the court that data from one mobile phone, belonging to Kejriwal’s wife, had been extracted and was under scrutiny.
However, the analysis of data from the other four digital devices seized during the search at Kejriwal’s premises on March 21, 2024, has been delayed. This is because Kejriwal has requested time to furnish the necessary passwords or login credentials, a process that involves consulting with his legal representatives.
