DEHRADUN: National Highway-54, leading to the revered Badrinath shrine, remained blocked for over 12 hours on Sunday due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall at three locations in Chamoli district, leaving hundreds of pilgrims stranded along the route. Recurring landslides and falling rocks were reported in Chinka, Kameda and Pagal Nala areas.
The police asked pilgrims “to plan their travel after considering the weather forecast.”
After extensive efforts, the highway at Kameda was reopened for small vehicles around 2 pm. The Pagalnala stretch was reopened around 5 pm. However, the highway faced another obstruction at Langasu in the evening.
